African Rainbow Family
The team at the African Rainbow Family has been working with LGBTIQ people of African heritage and refugees since 2014. They support communities that face harassment through petition advocacy, providing advice and consultation, as well as organising community events and counselling.
The coronavirus pandemic, and the social distancing restrictions that came with it, created a barrier to many of these services. Social gatherings could no longer go ahead, while it was hard for some members to access support online because they didn’t have the means, or knowledge, to do so.
Funding from the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal through Forever Manchester enabled the team to provide technology and support to its members that needed this, enabling them to maintain a vital sense of connection, and continue to offer care and advice during a challenging and lonely time, from a safe social distance.
