Bay Trust Radio
Bay Trust Radio is based at The Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal and run by a team of brilliant volunteers who are dedicated to promoting good health and wellbeing to hospital patients and residents across Lancashire and Cumbria. Their service provides great comfort for many during their hospital stays and helps to raise awareness of community news.
Funding from the NET Coronavirus Appeal, through Cumbria Community Foundation, has enabled the Bay Trust Radio team to transform the service they offer. A new system and IT equipment has meant that volunteers can produce and present live programmes from their homes with ease.
The station has celebrated its highest listening figures ever since the start of the pandemic. Station manager, John Williamson, said: “ Being able to keep the station on air is especially important in the times we find ourselves in, where patients in our hospitals can’t have visitors and all of us are having to stay at home as much as possible to help stop the spread of coronavirus.”
The investment that has been made because of Covid-19 will also support the team’s efforts far into the future, enabling them to create special programmes simply, without the need for bulky equipment.
