Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland

The team at Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland (RCTN) support women and girls over 13 years old who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time during their lives.

They offer a range of support programmes for those who have experienced traumatic acts, including confidential counselling and advocacy, a helpline, email support and specialist information, along with Independent Sexual Violence Advice (ISVA) services.

The coronavirus pandemic has meant that face-to-face contact has had to be restricted to a large extent, so many of the team’s sessions have moved online, including its group work, which is now delivered virtually, and on a more regular basis.

However, for some women and girls, being able to seek face-to-face support remains absolutely vital. Funding from the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal, through the Community Foundation for Tyne, Wear and Northumberland, has enabled the RCTN team to reopen its centre in a safe way for those who desperately need that in-person care.
