Sandwell African Women Association
Sandwell African Women Association [SAWA] supports African refugee women and children affected by wars, sexual violence, exploitation and abuse. The team delivers a range of vital services to improve safety, help those who are homeless and support young people who face barriers to work.
Funding from the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal through the Heart of England Community Foundation has enabled women from SAWA to respond to the new challenges created by the pandemic. They were able to mobilise to provide emergency support to those who were socially isolated and vulnerable elderly women from the African community, delivering essential food, toiletries and basic necessities to women all over Birmingham, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Sandwell.
“Throughout the coronavirus crisis we’ve worked hard to keep the elderly women that we support safe, and we receive feedback letting us know the huge difference our support is making in our community” says the team
