Stripey Stork is a charity that provides essential items for babies and children up to the age of 16, including clothing, equipment, care hampers for new parents and education/activity packs. When schools closed during the first national lockdown, it created a number of challenges for vulnerable families, including the unexpected cost of buying more essential items, as well as books, paper and pens at short notice.
With quick thinking, the team at Stripey Stork was able to use a grant from the National Emergencies Trust through the Community Foundation for Surrey to provide stationery packs for children, nappies in bulk and other essential items for local families that needed them.
Stripey Stork has remained open in a COVID-safe way throughout the crisis, despite needing to pause accepting pre-loved donations at times and reducing the number of volunteers on site. Their focus has continued to be getting the essential items to families across the local area and meeting the high demand for their service.
