Townsend Community Fridge
Townsend community Fridge in Bournemouth was set up by a group of local residents to tackle food waste and redistribute food from households and businesses to the community. It is something that is open to all. Each month, on average, the team collects and redistributes more than two tonnes of food and carries out 75 food pick-ups. It has been a great help to families facing financial hardship, made worse by the ongoing pandemic.
Funds from the NET Coronavirus Appeal, through Dorset Community Foundation, have supported the team’s vital work, enabling it to help families facing financial hardship, made worse by the ongoing pandemic.
Volunteers have been busy making food parcels and delivering these to those isolating, shielding and at risk of food poverty. New hygiene facilities have also been installed. The project is making a big difference in bringing the community together and ensuring that all good food is shared.
