Do you know someone who's helping to build a more inclusive world? Nominate them for the Elizabeth Balgobin Award.

Elizabeth Balgobin.

Do you know someone who’s helping to build a fairer, more inclusive world?

Someone whose actions are making sure that, in times of crisis, no one is left behind?

Nominate them for the Elizabeth Balgobin Award.

This special award honours the powerful legacy of the late Elizabeth Balgobin — a passionate advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion, and a dedicated trustee of the National Emergencies Trust. Her leadership during the Coronavirus Appeal and her broader work have ensured equity sits at the heart of our disaster responses.

Through this new annual award, we will carry forward Elizabeth’s belief that everyone deserves to be seen, heard and supported, especially during times of crisis.

Now, we need your help to nominate changemaking individuals.

Who can be nominated?

Anyone connected to the Trust’s work, whether directly (as a staff member, advisor or volunteer), or indirectly (through a partner organisation or project), can be put forward, so long as their efforts in the last 12 months have helped to build a more inclusive UK.

This could include people who have:

  • Found innovative ways to tackle equity, diversity or inclusion challenges
  • Inspired others to take action for a fairer society
  • Helped shift systems to better serve those often left behind
  • Progressed the Trust’s mission of ensuring no one is left behind

How to nominate

Submit a written nomination (up to 500 words) or a short video (up to 2 minutes), telling us:

  • Who you are and how to contact you
  • Who you’re nominating and their connection to our work
  • What they’ve done – the project, action or initiative
  • And most importantly: how their work has made a difference

Send your nomination to Alice Hill-Woods at:
alice.hill-woods@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab)
Deadline: 15 September 2025

If you need this information in a different format, just get in touch with Alice.

What happens next?

We are committed to a fair and unbiased process. Nominations are anonymised and reviewed by a judging panel encompassing members of the Trust’s Equity Advisory Panel (EAP). Decisions are based purely on the merit of the nominee’s impact. All applicants will be informed of the outcome, and recognition will only proceed with the nominee’s consent.

Award presentation

The winner will be celebrated at a public event this autumn and receive a certificate, a digital badge and inclusion in the Elizabeth Balgobin Award book.
