What this means for you

This page sets out the rules for using our website. The website is free to use.

You can read, print and share what we publish. Please credit us and link back to the page.

Photographs are different. We license most of them from other people. Please ask us first.

You cannot donate on this website. Our donate button takes you to a separate site. That site has its own terms.

We try to keep this website accurate and working. We cannot promise it will never have faults.

If something goes wrong, tell us. Email info@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab) and we will help.

Nothing on this page takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

Who runs this website

National Emergencies Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales (charity number 1182809) and a registered Scottish charity (charity number SC050062). Registered office: London Scottish House, 95 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2DX.

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We raise and distribute money to help people affected by emergencies in the UK.

You can reach us at info@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab), or through our contact page.

What these terms cover

These terms apply to this website, nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk. We provide it to you free of charge.

By using the website, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the website.

These terms do not cover other websites we link to. Donating happens on a separate site with its own terms. The section below explains this.

We have written this website for people in the UK. If you use it from another country, you are responsible for following the law where you are.

What this website is for

We publish information about our work, our appeals, the emergencies we respond to, and the organisations we fund. We also publish news and reports.

This information is general. It is not legal, financial, medical or technical advice. If you need advice about your own situation, please speak to someone qualified to give it.

We update the website when circumstances change. During an emergency, information can change quickly, and pages may not always show the latest position.

Donating

Our donate button takes you to a separate website run by Beacon, which handles donations and Gift Aid on our behalf. Your donation is a contract with us, but the donation website has its own terms and its own privacy information. Please read them before you give.

We do not sell anything on this website. We do not take payments here, and we do not take event bookings here.

Using our words and pictures

We own the copyright in this website and in most of what we publish on it. Some material belongs to other people who allow us to use it.

Our written content. You can copy, print, quote and share the words on our pages, including our news and reports. Please credit National Emergencies Trust and link back to the page you took it from. You can share it commercially, including in newspapers and broadcast coverage. Please do not change the meaning of what we wrote, and please do not use it in a way that suggests we support something we do not.

Photographs, film and audio. Please ask us before you use any of these. We license most of them from photographers, agencies and partner organisations, and the terms of those licences limit what we can pass on. Email info@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab) and we will tell you what is possible. We cannot always grant permission, because some rights are not ours to give.

Images of people. People who appear in our photographs and films have agreed to their images being used in specific ways. We will not grant permission that goes beyond what they agreed.

Our name and logo. Please ask before using either. Our logo is our artwork and we own the copyright in it. Charity names and logos are used in fundraising fraud, so we keep control of ours. If someone uses our name or logo in a way that suggests we are behind something we are not, we can act to stop it.

Automated collection and AI training. We reserve our rights in the content of this website, including our rights in relation to text and data mining and the training of artificial intelligence models. We do not permit our content to be collected for those uses without our agreement. Copying for non-commercial research is allowed by law and this reservation does not affect it.

Linking to us

Please link to us. It helps our appeals reach people.

We ask two things. Do not link in a way that suggests we endorse you, your organisation or your products when we do not. Do not display our pages inside a frame on your own website, because it hides where the information came from.

If a link misrepresents us, we may ask you to remove it.

What we ask you not to do

Do not use this website unlawfully.

Do not try to break into it, damage it, or interfere with how it works for other people. Do not introduce anything harmful, including viruses.

Do not collect data from the website by automated means without our agreement.

Our contact and complaints forms

Two forms on this website let you send us information: a contact form and a complaints form.

What you send us through either form goes to our staff. Nothing you send appears on the website, and other visitors cannot see it.

Our privacy policy explains what we do with the information you give us, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it.

Please do not send us confidential or sensitive information through the contact form. If your message concerns something sensitive, email us and we will find a safer way to talk.

What we can and cannot promise

We try to keep this website available, accurate and up to date. We cannot promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of faults, or that faults will be fixed quickly. We may suspend or withdraw the website, or part of it, when we need to.

We are legally responsible to you if we cause death or personal injury through our negligence, if we act fraudulently, or in any other case where the law does not allow us to limit our responsibility. Nothing on this page changes that.

Beyond those cases, we are not legally responsible for:

  • Loss or damage that was not foreseeable when you started using the website, meaning loss neither of us could have expected.
  • Loss or damage that we did not cause.
  • Business losses. We provide this website for personal use, and we are not responsible for loss of profit, loss of business or loss of business opportunity.

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect. Where anything on this page is unclear, it should be read in the way that most favours you.

If something goes wrong

Tell us. Most things are sorted out quickly once we know.

General concerns about the website. Email info@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab).

Complaints. Use the complaints form on this website, or email complaints@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab). We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it, keep you updated and tell you the outcome.

If you are still unhappy. Where your complaint is about fundraising, you can take it to the Fundraising Regulator (opens in a new tab). Where it is about how we have used your personal information, you can take it to the Information Commission (opens in a new tab). You can go to the Information Commission at any time, though we would like the chance to put things right first.

Our other policies

These pages sit alongside these terms:

Where any of these conflicts with this page on its own subject, that policy applies.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the website changes or the law changes. The date at the bottom of this page shows when we last did so.

We will tell you about changes that affect your rights by posting a notice on this page. We will not apply a change to something that happened before we made it.

Please check this page from time to time.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland, you can also bring proceedings in Scotland. If you live in Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in Northern Ireland.

Other formats

We will provide this page in other formats on request, including large print, easy-read and audio, and in other languages where we reasonably can. Email info@nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk (opens in a new tab). Our accessibility statement has more on this.
