The review by Lord Toby Harris (opens in a new tab) into London’s preparedness to face terrorist attacks has been published today and notes the significant progress made by London’s emergency services and key agencies since 2016.

Lord Harris points to marked improvements in communication and coordination by the emergency services and partner agencies. He also cites positive developments within the voluntary sector, including the launch of the National Emergencies Trust.

The review makes 294 new recommendations, including improving information sharing across those with a role to play in keeping London safe, and ensuring that findings from historic reviews by the voluntary sector help steer the development of future working practices and cross- sector preparedness considerations.

Mhairi Sharp, CEO of the National Emergencies Trust, said:

“It is very encouraging to see the wide-ranging progress that has been made in London’s preparedness to face terror attacks, including within the voluntary sector.”

“The review recognises the generosity of the public in the face of acts of terror and the difference financial donations can make to those affected.”

“We look forward to working with the Mayor on recommendations that will ensure that all those affected by terrorism can get the support they need, when they need it.”
