The National Emergencies Trust welcomes today’s announcement by the Government of a public consultation on establishing a national day to commemorate victims and survivors of terror attacks. We are also pleased to see plans for a new support hub that will aim to streamline support services available for those affected by terrorism.

Terror attacks have a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities across the country. Alongside memorial events for specific incidents, a nationwide day of commemoration would provide another important opportunity to honour those who have lost their lives and stand in solidarity with survivors and loved ones.

We are privileged to work directly with those impacted by terrorism and have seen first-hand the important role that remembrance can play, not just in individuals’ recovery but communities’ resilience.

We look forward to engaging with this consultation and ensuring that the voices of those affected by terrorism are at the heart of this significant initiative.
